What are you most excited about this summer?
I am continually developing my backend engineering skills, creating more websites and automation tools, ready to tackle challenges anyone hits me with. It’s a competitive market and employers want specialists — I’m doing my best to show my skills as well as personality which is a huge thing for software engineers who wants to break into tech. I will keep pushing forward to make my dream come true.
What goals have you set for yourself for this year? One of my long-term goals this year is to claim more security knowledge and applicable skills to develop SaaS for mission-critical companies. I will persist through my spring and fall classes with the hope of getting an internship this and next summer in time for new opportunities to learn modern technologies.
How has your internship helped you build new skills? What are you most proud of this summer?
So far over 6 weeks at Recidiviz as a Software Engineering Intern brought me experience with cloud computing and engineering, a handful of back-to-back REST API and GraphQL scripting to audit vendor accounts. I had many opportunities to ask questions to my manager during our 1:1 daily stand-up and the organizational-wide stand-up. I was able to communicate thoroughly about achievements and blockers to never have to feel like I can’t do it. I am most proud of the time when I outperformed my manager’s expectation of when he’d like the capstone project to be done. I have implemented virtual cloud functions to each of these vendors and deploy this in the cloud environment, managing service accounts for this internal auditing tool.
